NO TC10, not the 69ers thread.....
Clearly we have US ownership on a minority basis now and possible full ownership on the horizon so I thought I'd start a thread to follow the progress of the 49ers this year. Last night the San Francisco 49ers won their divisional playoff match to progress to the Conference Championship game and a shot at a place in the Superbowl.
Lots on here won't give a toss about Gridiron which I respect, but it's worth noting that the game in America is amazingly communist in its approach
- All 32 teams pay a flat salary cap to their squads every year, the same for all 32 teams
- A fixed percentage of gross income caps what can be paid - it's about 62% of commercial income goes to players
- Even shirt sales revenue is pooled as the shirts are made by one supplier centrally and sold centrally
- As a result owners make money on a stable basis out of the sport, which may explain why Yanks get confused when they buy "soccer" clubs in Europe.
Of course, the 49ers get these post season games as an extra that may mean more revenue for the owners...... should the 49ers win that Conference Championship game then the Superbowl awaits and all that goes with it. 🏈💲
Wonder if that will give them the "assistance" we need in the transfer market?
All makes me sick as I became a die hard Dolphins fan in the 80's and SF49ers were the arch enemy in red....
Our lot losing to the Rams in a semi final. Where have I seen that before?
The QB, Garrapillo, had a stinker.
A better QB would have seen 49ers get to the Superbowl.
Still there is always next season. This one probably exceeded expectations
On the plus side we don't have to shout 'come on you reds' in the final. ...
The journey ends for the 49ers. Dumped out last night after blowing a lead against the LA Rams.
Rams go on to Superbowl LVI to face the Bengals
Rams next in what us Brits would call a "Semi-Final". The Yanks call it the NFC Conference Championship.
Winner to the Superbowl!
Washington for me when it was airs on channel 4
Is gay Frisbee catching any different to any other form of frisbee catching?
I wouldnt say i "follow" American Football but when it started to be broadcast here in Ireland back in the day the Chicago Bears were my team so a bit like LUFC i've picked a team ie i've made my bed so now i lie in it.
Bull isnt a bandwagon jumper
Thanks Soops - I never knew all about that.
I sort of follow the NFL but never had a favourite team til now, pity they play in red!
Shanahan and his coaching team are geniuses! Some of the plays they devise are amazing. If not for injuries, they would have had far better seasons (sounds like LUFC)
Done well to reach the play offs, then they beat the Cowboys followed by the Packers.
The 49ers will next travel to either the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or Los Angeles Rams for the NFC Conference Championship. Win that and I think the Superbowl beckons. Does not matter either way as 49ers have had a great season and exceeded all expectations
Good post Soopa and never knew about flat salary caps etc.... could be something for FIFA or UEFA or whoever to thin about but I'm sure it would only encourage back handers etc!!
Formula One should have the same cars otherwise the best mechanics win from the best showroom.... in my unknowledgable opinion.
I've never liked NFL as a bloke just gets it from a ruck and throws it 50yds for another bloke with a crash helmet to catch.... all this lasts 5 seconds before they have a break and repeat again.
It's like watching gay Frisbee catching....
Good luck to the 69ers and hope they win it and be a real feel good factor and more money for them.... just can't believe they play in fkn red!! 🤬
